World of Warcraft: Forever

Miah's Mods: keeping World of Warcraft FUN

Anyone who knows me knows I used to LOVE World of Warcraft, but my career came first, so I stopped playing 10 or more years ago. World of Warcraft: Forever beta just started, I got in, and I'm re-learning the ropes.

I still hate the mods people whine about "needing", like any DPS mod or deadly boss babysitter mods. I don't trust the mod "community", so I make my OWN mods to help me play World of Warcraft MY way.

In progressMod #1

The MADHOUSE Mod

Ridiculous challenges. Real friends. Fair results.

GMs create in-game custom challenges for guildies and anyone else who wants in. It does two jobs: it creates and manages events, and it helps guilds recruit by showing there's more than just the game. It's a social club, and the prizes are just the hook.

Example event

The Nekkid Gnome Race

1Level 1 gnome. No armor.
2Run from the starting zone through PvP zones to the finish.
3First to open a trade with me wins.

The mod checks the gear, the route and the finish. Nobody has to submit anything.

How it works

1

Get notified

The minimap icon pulses gold when an event opens. The event summary shows right in the mod, with a link here for all the details.

2

Click Join

One click checks you qualify and signs you up.

3

Play

The mod tracks the rules so nobody cheats, and your results show on the live scoreboard.

For coordinators: add an event, set the win and loss rules, and pick what the mod tracks. Running a race and someone dies on purpose to run as a ghost? Disqualified. Dungeon race and someone got carried? Disqualified.

Event ideas

Fan favorites first, then the rest of the launch lineup. Every event is saved in the library, so any of them can come back.

Fan favorite

The Nekkid Gnome Race

Level 1 gnomes, no armor. Run from the starting zone through PvP zones to a set spot. First person to open a trade with me wins.

Fan favorite

The Ugly Orc Battle Royale

Make a level 1 orc and duel everyone who signed up. Ten losses and you're out. The last ugly orc standing takes the prize.

Fan favorite

Craftin' Crap Collecting

Start with an empty bag and grab cloth, leather, ore and every other bit of starter crafting junk you can for 60 minutes. Whoever collects the most wins, and gets it ALL. Sounds silly until you see auction house prices.

The Fight Club

Level 1 orcs, no weapons, no magic. Duke it out in duels: three losses and you're eliminated. Last orc standing wins.

Raid Timer

High-level groups clear a list of raids as fast as possible, any way they can. All bosses and all normal success criteria count.

First to 10

Brand-new characters, one starting signal. First to hit level 10 wins.

Hogger Bounty

Take down Hogger at the lowest level you dare. Lowest level kill wins.

Fishing Derby

One hour, one pole. Most fish caught wins.

Scavenger Hunt

A list of five items to loot. First to find them all wins.

Deathless to 15

Get a new character to level 15 without dying once. Everyone who makes it earns the badge.

Hide and Seek

I hide somewhere in the world. First to find me and /wave wins.

Greens or Worse

Clear a dungeon with nothing better than green gear. Fastest clean run wins.

Three tiers, free to enter

Free

Launching first

Anyone with the mod can join.

Win credits, badges and titles.

Gold

Next

A small in-game gold entry fee.

90% of fees go back to players as prizes.

Cash

Later

Free to enter, funded by donations and sponsors.

Run under Blizzard's Community Competition License.

Free and Gold events earn season points, so anyone can play their way into a cash final without paying a thing.

Built so nobody feels cheated

Same start line

One start signal, fresh characters, everyone grouped together.

Rules locked in advance

You see the exact rules before you join, and they don't change.

Proof behind every result

Every result traces back to what the mod recorded.

A real appeal

Any disqualification can be appealed to someone outside that event's crew.

More than one way to win

Rookie, Spirit and Survivor awards, and everyone who plays earns credits.

Skill, never luck

No raffles or random drawings, and crew can't win their own events.

More mods in the works

Private Group

Idea

Removes all chat and hides every player who isn't in your guild or on your friends list, so guilds and groups can play their way without the chatter and weirdness from random people.

Player Attitude

Idea

Rank other players by attitude and actions. Someone ninja looted? Flag them. Spamming chat? Flag them. After enough flags, the mod ignores them automatically, so they can't interact with you. Blizzard should have done this years ago.

Be on the start line

Get the mod, join the in-game Community, and watch for the first event.
